Making a list of concurrences

By carrying out the following steps it is very easy to use TACT when making a list of concurrences from the text (TACT refers to them as "collocations").

• Open the TACT programme.
• In the main menu, select the option CollGen.
• Write down the name of the database.
• A screen with different options will be displayed.
• Change the "Span context" from 2 to 2 to 2 to 10.
• Press "F9".

A file with extension .col will be created. Other files with the following extensions will be also created: .frq, .que i .nod.

The file with .frq extension is a list of concurrences ordered by its frequency and not alphabetically. To see an example of a list of concurrences ordered by frequency, click here.

The file with .que extension is a "query", that is, a list on how to make queries using Usebase. To see an example, click here.

Context of some concurrences

To see the context of some specific concurrences proceed as follows:

• Open the TACT programme.
• From the main menu, select UseBase.
• Go to File menu and select Import.
• The programme will ask from which file you want to import data.
• Ignore the question and press "Enter".
• Go to Display menu and select a display option.
• A list of concurrences will appear. Mark the ones you wish to select by pressing the "Ins" key.
• To save the results, go to File menu and select Disk.
• The search will be saved in a file with .lst extension.
