This document will walk you through the parts of the TACTweb Query Form. The paragraphs of numbered text (6.1, 6.2 ... ) are the comments on the parts of the form. This form will work - feel free to try it.
6.1 To begin, you will notice that the form tells you which text you are searching. This is just to orient you. You could find different forms which search different texts.
6.2 These two buttons are used to actually Submit a Query or to Reset the Form so that it is blank again. Submitting a query runs the search. You might have to wait a while before you get a response if your search was complicated.
6.3 The box above is where you type the pattern you want to search for. This could be a word like "moon" or a more complex pattern. For more information on patterns you can search for see What can we search for? or Basic Help with TACTweb Query Language.

6.4 In certain cases you may want to search for the co-occurrence of two patterns. In this case you have to specify how wide a context you want the system to use for your query. For more information on Co-occurence Searches that use the Query Context see Co-occurrence Searches. The type of context (Words, Speech (via "Speaker"), Page, Line) will depend on the markup in the text that is being searched.

6.5 This pop-up menu is used to choose the type of display you want to see the results in. For more information about the types of display see What can the computer show us?.

6.6 If you decide to view the results with a Variable Context Display then this pop-up menu and Before/After fields allow you to specify how much context you want for each successful hit. Form more information see Variable Context Display.
Reference Template:
6.7 When TACTweb quotes portions of the text that it has selected it also displays a citation reference that allows you to identify where the text came from. The Reference Template allows you to tell TACTweb what information you want in this reference, and how you want it displayed. To specify the information you want displayed you must name it, using names called "RefIDs". The names available in the Midsummer text are: Act Line page actscene speaker scene To specify the format of the reference you can specify a "reference template". Here is an example: ($actscene,$speaker) The names of the information you want to include are preceded by dollar signs -- thus in this example, the actscene and speaker information is to be included. The other characters are simply included for formatting purposes. Thus, TACTweb will display all references by surrounding them with parantheses, and separating the actscene information from the speaker information by a comma.
