Help building gpc under solaris 2.5!

Dear gcp experts,

I am trying to get gpc up so that we can do some benchmarking of a
2400-line pascal program that we have - transportations modelling.
More on that later perhaps.

The system is a SPARCcenter 2000 running sparc-sun-solaris2.5.

I seem to have successfully installed GCC 2.7.2.1.
I can compile and run a simple C program with it.

My make is GNU Make version 3.74.

The results of the ./configure in the gcc-2,0 directory seem to be
without error. I include only the summary here:

-------------------------------------------------
Configuration summary:
  Building a native sparc-sun-solaris2.5 compiler

  GPC sources in: .
  GCC sources in: ../gcc-2.7.2.1
  GCC object code in: ../gcc-2.7.2.1
  GCC version: 2.7.2.1

  Compiler for GPC: gcc
  Compiler for libgpc.a: gcc
  Compiler flags: -g -O

  Installation path: /usr/local/bin, (wrapping)
/usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.5/2.7.2.1
------------------------------------------------------

But, when I go to do the make for gpc, I get:

gcc -DGPC -DIN_GCC -g -O -I. -I. -I../gcc-2.7.2.1 -I../gcc-2.7.2.1
(line wrapped) -I../gcc-2.7.2.1/config \
  -DSTANDARD_STARTFILE_PREFIX=\"/usr/local/lib/\" \
  -DSTANDARD_EXEC_PREFIX=\"/usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/\" \
  -DDEFAULT_TARGET_VERSION=\"2.7.2.1\" \
  -DDEFAULT_TARGET_MACHINE=\"sparc-sun-solaris2.5\" \
  -DTOOLDIR_BASE_PREFIX=\"/usr/local/\" \
   \
  -c `echo ./gcc.c | sed 's,^\./,,'`
gcc.c: In function `fatal':
gcc.c:5209: `__builtin_va_alist' undeclared (first use this function)
gcc.c:5209: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
gcc.c:5209: for each function it appears in.)
gcc.c: In function `error':
gcc.c:5231: `__builtin_va_alist' undeclared (first use this function)
make: *** [../gcc-2.7.2.1/gcc.o] Error 1

I'm sure that this is a common problem, but I haven't a clue.
No refs to this in your mail-archive or FAQ.
Via alta-vista, I've found others having this problem with other packages.
What did I do wrong, or fail to read between the lines, or just
fail to read!?

Any help appreciated! Other tips may be needed once I get the compiler
working. The source program is from delphi.

Please (cc) directly reply to me - I have not subscribed to your list.

Thanks,

John Miller
