Agreed, this is nice for number crunching (much like Fortran handles generic
write(6,*)) and hence I'd prefer it to default to that.
It is not so nice when you want to do fancy stringish output stuff,
so I'd think there should be an option (compiler or even better, runtime) to
switch to left justified output where so desired. Cheers. Stefan
